ATI Inspires Future Transportation Professionals
On February 19, 2025, the Alabama Transportation Institute hosted a successful Transportation Awareness Day at Greensboro Middle School. The event attracted 305 enthusiastic 6th to 9th grade students, eager to explore transportation and STEM education.
The event aimed to raise awareness and foster interest in transportation careers, emphasizing the importance of STEM education. Students engaged with cutting-edge technology and learned about the future of transportation through interactive stations focused on automated, connected, electric, shared, and safe emerging transportation technology. ATI Hosts Drone Workshop for Young Students
On February 1, 2025, the Alabama Transportation Institute (ATI) Education and Outreach team welcomed 10 curious 4th and 5th grade students from Alabama STEM Education in Bessemer, AL, for a three-hour workshop titled “The Importance of Drones in Modern Transportation.”The workshop introduced students to drone technology, covering safety protocols, flight operations, and practical applications. A key focus was on drones’ role in optimizing last-mile delivery, enhancing accessibility in remote areas, and providing sustainable solutions. By the end of the workshop, students gained valuable insights into how drones are revolutionizing transportation and driving innovation across various sectors.

ATI Launches Transportation Awareness Workshop Series
On January 10, 2025, the Alabama Transportation Institute (ATI) Education and Outreach team proudly initiated its Transportation Awareness Workshop Series. This innovative series is designed to engage K12 students in high-quality, transportation-focused STEM activities, each session lasting three hours. The workshops aim to provide students with hands-on experiences in various aspects of transportation technology and infrastructure. Additionally, the series includes a career exploration component, offering insights into the diverse career opportunities within the transportation sector. Through these workshops, ATI seeks to inspire and educate the next generation of transportation professionals, emphasizing the critical role of STEM education in shaping the future of transportation.

ATI Hosts Inaugural Transportation Awareness Day 2024
On April 12, 2024, ATI proudly hosted the first Transportation Awareness Day at Hale County College and Career Academy in Greensboro, Alabama. The event welcomed over 300 elementary and middle school students, offering them a glimpse into various educational paths and careers in transportation. Students engaged with interactive exhibits from transportation entities across the state, participating in hands-on activities like flying drones, interacting with 3D printed cars, and witnessing a Tuscaloosa police helicopter landing.
