ATI Hosts Inaugural Transportation Awareness Day at Hale County College and Career Academy

April 26, 2024

ATI was thrilled to host the inaugural Transportation Awareness Day at the Hale County College and Career Academy in Greensboro, Alabama. The event, held on Friday, April 12, 2024, gave elementary and middle school students an opportunity to see the various educational paths and careers offered in transportation.

Over 300 enthusiastic students enjoyed the many interactive exhibits hosted by transportation entities from across the state. The program included hands-on activities in various aspects of transportation, including road safety, infrastructure development, and sustainable transportation solutions. These activities allowed students to fly a small drone, interact with 3D printed cars, and witness a Tuscaloosa police helicopter landing. The inquisitive students asked many questions about various aspects of the pilot’s job.

“We were excited to launch our first Transportation Awareness Day in collaboration with the Hale County College and Career Academy,” said Dr. Hope Whiteside, STEM Education Research Specialist at ATI. “This event presented a fantastic opportunity for young students to discover the breadth of career possibilities within the transportation sector and to ignite their interest in STEM-related fields.”

Transportation Awareness Day was made possible through the collaborative efforts of ATI and its partners, including the Center for Regional & Rural Connected Communities (CR2C 2), educational institutions, government agencies, and industry stakeholders. Together, they are committed to empowering young minds and building a brighter future for the transportation workforce.
